Welcome to Thriving
8:45pm
Dad, mom, Israel, Mayowa, and I sat in the living room hungrily devouring our meal as we watched Tvc news on television.
We listened half heartedly as the journalist spoke about the present government administration, inflation, and the high cost of living in the country.
Deep in our minds, we honestly didn't care what the journalist was saying (why bother anyway)
I was glad when Tvc decided to go on a commercial break
Most times, when Tvc goes on commercial break they usually show a short animated video clip under a segment called “knowing the great”
In this two to three minutes animated video clip they tell the stories of great men and women. Their biography, the impact they made during their lifetime or are still making (if he or she is still alive) and the legacy they left behind after their demise. The likes of Maya Angelou, Chinua Achebe, Mohammed Ali, Wole Soyinka etc
On this day when Tvc went on a commercial break and they showed knowing the great
Guess whose animated biography video clip they showed
Martin Luther king Jr
I dropped my plate of Amala and Ewedu and payed rapt attention because…
It wasn't the first time I would hear his name or hear about him but I never really paid attention, so today I decided to pay good attention
Martin Luther king Jr also known as Dr. King was a great man who had a big dream, a dream deeply rooted in his love for the black people, African Americans. That the African Americans would be judged by their character and not by the colour of their skin.
The American civil rights movement was the platform he used while he was alive to bring this dream to reality through non violent protest.
Today;
Black people can walk freely in the streets of America
Black people can occupy government positions
Black people can study whatever course they would love to study
Black people can build Wealth
A black man can have a family with a white woman
Adebayo ogunlesi, a Nigerian and a black man can run a business with a white man, not just any white man but one of the biggest in finance - Larry Fink
All these are made possible because of the legacy of one man- Martin Luther king Jr
Till tomorrow, Dr. King's legacy will continue to foster greater understanding and co-operation amongst people of different races.
Another great man whose impact still extends far beyond his lifetime is…
Dr. Myles Munroe
Dr. Myles Munroe made profound impact on the lives of countless individuals worldwide through his teachings, books, and organizations he founded while he was alive.
Till this day, Apostles, Pastors, and ministers of God around the globe consider him as an eternal mentor.
Even till tomorrow, he will continue to be a blessing to the spiritual lives of many christians, people will still read his books and discover God's divine purpose for their lives and uncover their hidden potentials.
The lives of these great men got me thinking deeply and I began to ask myself certain questions
What impact am I making in the lives of those around me?
Do I want to continue living as “one person out of the billions of people on the earth” or do I want to be called “mighty in the land”?
What good will be spoken of me when I die?
My dear friend,
Just like Martin Luther king Jr and Dr Myles Munroe
What will you be remembered for when you're six feet below the earth?
What legacy are you leaving behind after you die?
You and I are not dying anytime soon…so relax😂
But the truth is…
It's never too early to think and plan towards it now.
This has a lot to do with discovering the purpose of our lives and fulfilling destiny.
It has to do with leaving indelible footprints on the sand of time that will continue to speak volumes even when our mortal bodies decay and return to dust.
The legacy you and I leave behind after we leave the earth is going to be our testament that we truly walked upon the earth.
Critically think about this even as you journey into the new month.
Before we go, let's observe a minute silence for these great men.
Till next time
Keep Thriving 🥂
And don't you dare forget that: to your greatness there is no end!
